The Salvador Allende Arts Festival for Peace founded by Rodrigo Barreda, Lautaro Fuentes, Leonardo Leiva and Tamara Toledo in 2003, began as a place to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the military coup in Chile on Sept. 11, 1973. It was built on the premise that artists can play an important role on all levels of social change through a recuperation and re interpretation of stories and histories.
The festival was an annual multi-disciplinary event that showcased: music; visual arts; theatre; dance; performance art; poetry and spoken word; film and video; as well as educational and community outreach initiatives. The festival became a platform for local artists to address social and political themes and support visual minority artists to present their work to a broader audience.
The last festival took place at Artscape Wychwood Barns in 2011.
