Latin American Art Projects (LACAP) and Sur Gallery invite artists, activists, curators, scholars, and arts administrators to participate in Positionality: A Symposium on Latin American and Latinx art in Canada. This symposium will take place online with the potential of in-person events at Sur Gallery pending restrictions.
Running from April 21st-25th, he symposium will be exploring the following themes:
- The Power of Advocacy and Collectivity
- Questioning Mestizaje
- Intersectional Queer and Feminist Identities
- Decolonizing Practices
As a 4-day gathering, the symposium will bring a range of voices concerned with Latinx art in Canada. Our intention is to build community, valuable contacts, and long-lasting networks. This symposium seeks to address the systemic barriers faced by the Latinx community in Canada and will identify common grounds from where to begin an analysis, with the intention to develop strategies of resistance, build networks of solidarity and exchange, improve the livelihood of art practitioners, and grant opportunities for an underrepresented community.
